Howard Sklar with Daughter Sharon Hayes

This month Gemini Blinds celebrates 30 years in the window treatment business. It has been an exciting journey with many obstacles to overcome and successful accomplishments.
Howard Sklar, Owner of Gemini Blinds, started the company in August 1988, selling Hunter Douglas residential blinds. Since then, Howard has grown the business substantially and set firm roots within the areas around the Gemini Blinds Mamaroneck showroom. Howard’s wife, daughters, and grandchildren are an integral part of the business.  Family members have helped Gemini Blinds grow by handling administrative aspects of the company behind the scenes.

Gemini Blinds now services residential homes and commercial businesses in Larchmont, Mamaroneck, Rye, Scarsdale, Harrison, Armonk, Manhattan, Greenwich & Stamford areas of Connecticut. There is also a sister window treatment store, Strachman Blinds, in New York City. Over the last 30 years, the product range has grown substantially to include custom draperies & handcrafted upholstery services. These product lines were added since clients were looking for a complete window treatment look while adding fabrics to coordinate with furniture and home décor.

The Gemini Blinds product range has exponentially increased over the past three decades:

• Handcrafted custom drapery in luxurious Kravet fabrics in different opacities, colors, textures and patterns
• Markilux outdoor awnings and Eclipse external retractable awnings and screens
Shower doors in stainless steel, chrome, brushed nickel and bronze glass
• Custom Glass Mirrors
• The full Hunter Douglas window shades, blinds and shutter lines
• Wood Shutters and plantation shutters
Motorized shades and blinds
• Traditional and modern roman shades
• Upholstery services to match your window treatments to your soft furnishings

Howard thoroughly enjoys the one-on-one time he has with each customer; designing, planning and guiding them along the path of choosing the window treatments and interior home décor that will suit their individual lifestyles.

One of the many accomplishments at Gemini Blinds has been the ability to offer full-service to all the clients before and after the sale. Starting from expert design consultation, professional measuring all the way through to a flawless installation process, Gemini wants to make sure you are completely satisfied with their products before and after the sale. Gemini Blinds can make their customer’s life as easy as possible with both in-home and showroom appointments, on-time delivery and professional measuring and installation. Gemini Blinds provides a free design consultation service on all Hunter Douglas blinds, shades and shutters.

It isn’t all been about the business; it’s also about contributing to and giving back to the local area. Howard feels strongly about giving back to the local community and donates to The Osborn foundation, Westchester Day School, Westchester Jewish Center and the Rye YMCA organization. Howard is committed to supporting local organizations so neighborhoods can continue to thrive.
